Genean Dickinson, 2 Others Injured in Chandler, TX 18-Wheeler Accident
UPDATE (January 26, 2023): The SUV driver injured in this collision has been identified as 44-year-old Genean Dickinson.
Chandler, TX — January 6, 2023, three people were injured in a traffic accident involving an 18-wheeler on State Highway 31 in Chandler.
Authorities say the incident began just after 6:00 a.m. Friday at the intersection of State Highway 31 and Sawmill Road. Preliminary investigation suggests a Toyota Highlander was southbound on Sawmill when the driver may have run a stop sign. After entering the SH 31 intersection the SUV collided with an eastbound 18-wheeler. The 18-wheeler then ran off the road into the nearby city parking lot, where it hit three parked vehicles and then crashed into the wall of the building.
The truck driver and the SUV's two occupants were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries.
No further information is currently available.
I've lost count of all the times I've cautioned people to take preliminary reports with a grain or two of salt until something more conclusive—supported by clear evidence—is available. Police gather what information they can at the scene and then connect those dots with educated guesses (or just "gut feelings"), but rarely do those dots make a clear and complete picture.
For all anyone knows they got things right at first glance in Chandler, but as with almost any collision it's best to investigate the matter carefully and thoroughly in case there are other contributing factors missed in the first go-round. A crash caused by a simple failure to yield might look exactly the same as one caused by brake failure or a medical emergency, but those are obviously very different situations. That's why the whole story, including subtler details that need a closer look, should be learned for everyone's sake. If there's more than met the eye of officers at the scene, the people affected deserve to know about it.
