Jadarlon Dashaun Key Injured in 18-wheeler Accident in Gregg County, TX
Gregg County, TX -- December 15, 2022, Jadarlon Dashaun Key was injured after an accident where his vehicle crashed with an 18-wheeler.
Investigators said that the incident happened at around 6:00 p.m. along Highway 31 at the I-20 West on-ramp. It appears 20-year-old Jadarlon Dashaun Key was driving a Chevy Trailblazer southbound along Highway 31 at the time.
An oncoming 18-wheeler was said to have attempted a left turn toward the I-20 ramp. Doing so, it crossed southbound lanes, and Key's vehicle crashed into the trailer. This caused Key to suffer injuries described as incapacitating. No other injuries were reported.
It's significant that authorities suggest that an 18-wheeler may have failed to yield here. I certainly can't confirm if that's true or not without seeing the evidence for myself. With that said, though, it's important that folks understand why one can never take reports like this as straight-forward or open-and-shut.

Put simply, there are many barriers and professionals that are dedicated to obfuscating the facts and shifting the blame. If any of those things goes unchecked because it's though that the initial details speak for themselves, victims and families can quickly find themselves at the wrong end of a tipped scale. Folks need to understand the real world experience, state-of-the-art tools, and strategy that goes into getting people the help they need.
It's more than just, "Who had the right of way," or, "Was someone on their phone". There are other questions an experienced professional must answer. What condition was the truck in? Did have defects or parts in disrepair? Was it overloaded or speeding? Was the driver within their hours of service? Were they trained properly? Does their employer facilitate or actively encourage reckless behavior?
If questions like those aren't being answered here, then it would surprise me to learn there's a lot more to this story than what we're seeing here.
