Jesus Garcia Injured in Truck Accident on US-59 in Liberty County, TX
Liberty County, TX — November 22, 2022, 41-year-old Jesus Garcia was injured in a crash with a commercial truck on U.S. Highway 59 in Liberty County.
Authorities say the incident happened around 1:05 p.m. on US-59 at County Road 379. Preliminary investigation suggests Garcia was driving a Mazda 3 sedan south on the highway in the right lane as a Peterbilt tractor-trailer was southbound in the lane to his left.
Investigators believe Garcia may have drifted left out of his lane toward the big rig for unknown reasons. He reportedly steered away trying to avoid the truck tractor but instead made contact with its trailer. The car became wedged beneath the trailer and was dragged some distance before the truck came to a stop.
Garcia suffered serious injuries in the crash. The truck driver was unhurt.
No further information is currently available.
Investigators mentioned the crash victim was the subject of 911 calls for reckless driving shortly before the accident and he was said to be "weaving through traffic and speeding." I can't and won't speak to the truth of those allegations, but I can't help but notice that reports don't include any input from the man himself. Did he have any explanation or reasoning for his alleged behavior? Is there more to the story than recklessness--a vehicle malfunction, maybe, or a medical emergency?
To be clear, I don't know more than anyone else about what happened here. The years have just taught me that things aren't always what they seem at first, and it's important to realize there are two (or more) sides to most stories. Who's making sure the victim's side is known?
