Shawn Figurski Killed in Single-Vehicle Accident on US-281 near Lampasas, TX

Lampasas County, TX — December 29, 2022, 54-year-old Shawn Figurski was killed in a single-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 281 near Lampasas.

Authorities say the incident happened around 11:15 p.m. on US-281 near County Road 3500, roughly 7 miles outside of town. Preliminary investigation suggests Figurski was driving a Dodge Ram pickup north on the highway when he may have lost control for unknown reasons. The pickup left the roadway and rolled over multiple times before coming to rest.

Figurski was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary findings give a rough sketch of what happened near Lampasas, but have few insights about exactly how or why things went that way. Could the driver have made a mistake? Maybe, but that can't be taken for granted while so many other potential factors haven't been considered yet. Many other explanations, plenty of them out of the victim's control, could have sent that pickup off the road.

A full and proper investigation must consider all possibilities so the people who lost a loved one on that highway know they have the whole story. They deserve no less, so I hope authorities will make sure they get it—and hopefully some peace of mind with it.
