Darrell Bergeron Killed in Hit-and-Run on Buena Vista St in San Antonio, TX

San Antonio, TX — December 26, 2022, 60-year-old Darrell Bergeron was struck and killed by a truck on Buena Vista Street in west San Antonio.

Authorities say the incident happened around 7:15 p.m. on Buena Vista at Smith Street. Preliminary investigation suggests Bergeron was walking north on Smith and may have been crossing through Buena Vista when he was fatally hit by an eastbound Chevy Silverado pickup truck. The driver then left the scene without stopping or rendering aid.

The investigation is ongoing. No further information is currently available.

It's terrible and frustrating to read about yet another hit-and-run on Texas roads. Clearly authorities must do everything they can to locate the driver who left the scene—not only to ensure that person faces consequences, but also to learn precisely why they left. Whatever their motive, the people who lost someone dear to them during the holidays deserve to know the whole story.

What police are likely doing now--searching for material evidence, witnesses, video footage from the area, and other sources of information--is crucial in finding every possible clue. Any new developments they can find and relay to the public are more pieces of the puzzle that someone will eventually put together to recognize a suspect. It may take some time, but if everyone cooperates I have hope that the victim's loved ones will see at least some kind of resolution for their loss.
