Crashes involving teen drivers don't always get the careful investigation they deserve. Why? Because many people see them as unfortunate byproducts of inexperienced or reckless young people taking risks behind the wheel, prematurely pinning the blame on the victims due to little more than their age.
It's true that drivers sometimes make mistakes; it's also true that statistically young drivers make many. However, fault can never really be assumed or assigned automatically. What if there's more to the story? Things like tire blowouts and vehicle defects may not be all that common, but they cause wrecks every day and can't be ignored when putting the puzzle together.
Unfortunately, less-common elements are often overlooked during a "by the book" police investigation. Turning a blind eye to those possibilities is a problem if it means someone could be blamed for a wreck that was actually out of their hands. Will someone make sure that doesn't happen in Jasper County?
