Jenny Ybarra Killed; Akecia Ramirez, Elias Ramirez Injured in Lubbock, TX Car Accident
Lubbock, TX — December 23, 2022, 32-year-old Jenny Ybarra died and two people were injured in a single-vehicle accident on Avenue Q in Lubbock.
Authorities say the incident happened shortly before 11:30 p.m. in the area of Avenue Q and 45th Street. Preliminary investigation suggests 37-year-old Akecia Ramirez was diving a vehicle north on Ave Q when she lost control for unknown reasons. The car left the road and hit a barricade, crashed into several vehicles in a car lot, then overturned and came to rest against a light pole.
Jenny Ybarra, a passenger in the car, was fatally injured in the crash. Akecia Ramirez and 34-year-old passenger Elias Ramirez were treated for moderate injuries.
The investigation is ongoing. No further information is currently available.

It's always terrible to learn of another fatal accident on Texas roads. I'd imagine many people, much like myself, are wondering how and why the one in Lubbock happened. Some may try to fill in the blanks for themselves with guesses about some types of driver mistake, but even though those cause many single-vehicle accidents it's not right to make any assumptions.
There are many factors beyond the driver's control that could have a similar outcome; mechanical defects, medical emergencies, road hazards, tire blowouts, other drivers that fled the scene, and other possibilities warrant careful investigation from experienced professionals. I wonder if police efforts alone will be enough to get badly-needed answers for the people who need them here.
