Terrance Wardell Riddick Killed in Tractor-Trailer Accident on I-64 in Chesapeake, VA

UPDATE (December 29, 2022): News sources have identified the driver killed in the crash as 58-year-old Terrance Wardell Riddick. It was said by at least one source that the crash happened after "the vehicle began to fishtail for no reason." Clearly, there was a reason that happened. But it can be anything from speeding to a tire blowout to road hazards to a cargo shift to mechanical issues. As I mention below, it's important the right people are looking into things so that the victim's loved ones have some actual answers. It's not good enough saying they experienced just about the worst pain a family can go through for "no reason."

Chesapeake, VA -- December 28, 2022, one person was killed due to an accident where a tractor-trailer crashed off the side of I-64.

Preliminary information provided in the news says that the incident happened at around 6:00 a.m. near mile marker 299 of eastbound Hampton Roads Beltway. That appears to be just off of Military Highway. In a series of events yet to be confirmed, a tractor-trailer somehow left its lane, crashed through a barrier, and went into a ditch along the median.

One Killed in Tractor-Trailer Accident on I-64 in Chesapeake, VA

One person was found to be deceased following the crash. That person's identity and the cause of the crash are both unclear at this time. That's not exactly unusual with a serious commercial truck wreck, though my concern is if the situation is actually getting the attention it deserves. Authorities don't often have the experience or time to look into a crash like this, and that can lead to them assuming the driver must have done something wrong.

But what about other possible factors, such as tire blowouts or medical emergencies? Road hazards or other reckless drivers who left the scene? Below, for example, is an article explaining potential mechanical issues and why authorities rarely have the means to investigate them properly.

I certainly can't say what happened here without seeing more thorough investigations, but I know how important it is for victims and families to know they're getting the full story. I can't help being concerned those steps aren't being taken here.
