Isaias Ariza, 1 Other Injured in Crash on Quorum Drive in Addison, TX
Addison, TX — July 31, 2022, 27-year-old Isaias Ariza and another person were injured in a crash on Quorum Drive in Addison.
Authorities say the incident happened around 12:25 a.m. on the 15500 block of Quorum at Addison Circle. Preliminary investigation suggests a Ford F-250 was speeding north on Quorum, allegedly trying to escape police pursuit, when it rear-ended Ariza's Honda Accord that was stopped at the Addison Circle roundabout. The impact pushed the Honda into a nearby concrete landscape barrier, while the pickup jumped the barrier and crashed into several light boxes before coming to rest on a hill inside the roundabout.
The Ford driver was seriously injured in the crash. Ariza reported received minor injuries.
Police suspected the Ford driver of being intoxicated and collected blood samples for testing.

Commentary on Isaias Ariza Accident in Addison
If blood tests confirm that the allegedly at-fault driver was impaired (which doesn't seem that far-fetched given how the wreck was described), that may mean he'll have a day in court to answer for his poor choices that night. Drunk driving is a serious problem on Texas roads and it's only right that the people who do so face consequences for putting people in danger. However, before anyone decides that's the end of the matter there may be other things to consider.
For instance, after alcohol-related crashes it's important to find out where the alcohol actually came from. Why? Because a local bar or other alcohol vendor might have illegally over-served the injured suspect before the crash. If so, that business might be liable for the injuries he and the other victim suffered under dram shop law. It would then have a duty to help both men get back on their feet.

Getting people the help they need and deserve is one reason of many why comprehensive investigations are so important. I can't say exactly what role alcohol played in this wreck, but if police strongly suspect it played a role then it seems like a good idea to find out where it came from. Unfortunately, law enforcement doesn't really make it a point to get those details. If an accident like this isn't followed up on by experienced independent investigators, there's no telling if the whole truth will be uncovered or if the victims will get all the help they deserve.
