John Cardenas Killed in Auto Accident on FM 812 in Del Valle, TX
UPDATE (January 20, 2023): The victim of this accident has been identified as 47-year-old John Cardenas.
Del Valle, TX — December 16, 2022, one person died in a collision between two pickup trucks on Farm to Market Road 812 in Del Valle.
Authorities say the incident happened around 7:45 p.m. along FM 812 at FM 973, close to State Highway 21. Preliminary investigation suggests that a Chevrolet GMT pickup was traveling north on FM 973 and approached the 812 intersection. The driver allegedly pulled forward but failed to yield to an approaching Ford F-250 with an attached trailer; the trucks crashed in the lanes of FM 812.
The Chevy driver was fatally injured in the collision. The Ford driver reportedly received minor injuries.
No further information is available at this time.
There's no telling what happened here yet, and in the absence of clear facts I discourage speculation. It never takes long for folks to decide someone was distracted, speeding, drunk, or some combination of those after reading about accidents like this, yet in so many cases it's eventually learned that something else entirely—something often out of either driver's hands—was to blame.
Anything from wet roads to low visibility to vehicle malfunctions, with many stops between, could have been responsible for this fatal crash, and those involved deserve the benefit of the doubt until careful and thorough investigation can say more. I hope authorities were able to satisfactorily explain the events on FM 812 to that man's loved ones; they deserve no less than the whole story.
