FedEx Driver Killed in Crash on Riviera Drive in Coral Gables, FL

Coral Gables, FL — December 16, 2022, a FedEx driver died in a crash with a landscaping truck on Riviera Drive in Coral Gables.

Authorities say the incident happened Friday on the 6500 block of Riviera Drive. Preliminary investigation and surveillance video from the area suggest the FedEx truck may have been driving on the wrong side of the road when it crashed into the back of a landscaping truck parked in a driveway. The truck then veered away and crashed into a nearby tree.

The FedEx driver was reportedly ejected during the crash, after which the truck overturned on her.

The investigation continues. No further information is available at this time.

Commentary on Coral Gables FedEx Truck Accident on Riviera Dr

News sources say the truck driver in this accident was seen by a local resident dropping off a package just minutes before her crash, and the resident said she seemed "just fine." If that's accurate then it seems like something very sudden befell the truck or its driver; investigators mentioned the possibility of a sudden medical emergency and that certainly needs consideration, as does any kind of malfunction or defect in the truck sending it off-course. Either of those might raise some questions about FedEx's practices, both in screening their drivers and maintaining their fleet.

To be clear, I read the same reports as everyone else. I'm not claiming to know more than they say, nor am I making any accusations. All I know is that a woman tragically lost her life under mysterious circumstances, and it's only right that the mystery be cleared up. Her loved ones deserve the whole story; the question is whether law enforcement's efforts alone can truly get to the bottom of what happened.
