Man Injured in Hit-and-run Accident on I-35 at Boggy Creek in Austin, TX

Austin, TX -- September 10, 2022, a man was injured after an accident where a vehicle hit them along I-35, then left the scene.

Officials said that the incident happened at around 2:43 a.m. along I-35 in the area of Boggy Creek Drive.

Investigators said that 21-year-old Estephania Trejo and an unidentified man were in a Honda Accord traveling northbound along the service road. It appears that a vehicle, described as a blue 2014 Chrysler 200, crashed into them. The driver of that vehicle then left the scene.

Due to the crash, the passenger in Trejo's vehicle had incapacitating injuries. It appears Trejo was unharmed. Police said the runaway driver was under the influence of alcohol, but additional details regarding if the driver has been apprehended remain unclear at this time.

It's not really clear if police ever located this driver. They seem confident the driver was under the influence of alcohol, and they have a lot of information about the vehicle involved. Did that person leave the scene on foot? Have they since been caught? Was a witness able to provide information to the authorities?

It wouldn't at all be surprising if alcohol was a factor, considering how common a reason that is for people to flee accident scenes. Not only could there be consequences for that driver, but there could even be a local establishment liable for the victim's injuries if they over-served the driver.

All of this is why thorough investigations are always important. Folks can't just take for granted that police efforts alone are going to get them the answers they need. There usually has to be independent professionals involved, and the same could very well prove true here, as well.
