Woman Killed in Pedestrian Accident on FM 1485 in New Caney, TX
New Caney, Tx -- December 13, 2022, a woman was killed due to an accident where a vehicle struck her along FM 1485.
Investigators said that the incident happened at around 6:30 p.m. along FM 1485 off the corner of Kidd Cemetery Road.
It appears that an unidentified woman, believed to be in her 40s, was walking along the center turn lane on FM 1485. At some point, she may have entered the northbound lane where a Chevy Suburban hit her.
The woman succumbed to fatal injuries due to the crash. Police did not report any charges nor have they confirmed any factors leading up to the accident.

I find people are very uncharitable when it comes to pedestrian accidents like this. They just assume the victim was entirely in the wrong. That could very well be true, but it's also possible someone else is responsible. And that's not to shift blame on the driver involved. On the contrary, there can even be outside actors who need to be investigated.
For example, I had a family come to me about their loved one hit and killed on the highway. Independent investigations revealed he'd been drinking at a nearby bowling alley. The business illegally over-served him to the point he got lost while walking home, and he wandered onto the highway. What folks wrote off as just some guy being reckless ended up being a dram shop case against a negligent business that was putting the community at risk.
I'm not saying that happened here, of course, but investigators need to consider these possibilities. Likely or not, there's a family out there that deserves to know all possible factors were considered.
