UPDATE (December 20, 2022): In recent reports, authorities say they've issued a warrant for the arrest of 41-year-old Ramiro Arael Hernandez Campillo in connection with the death of Refugio Chavez Jr. They allege he was the driver of the black SUV, said to be a Chevy Trail Blazer. They also say they believe he may have sold the vehicle to "attempt to separate himself from" the incident. This and other details cannot be confirmed at this time. Police encourage anyone with information to come forward.
Laredo, TX -- December 9, 2022, Refugio Chavez Jr. was killed due to an accident where a vehicle struck him, then left the scene.
Investigators said that the incident happened late Friday along Guadalupe Street. It appears that 44-year-old Refugio Chavez Jr. was walking at the time when an eastbound SUV struck him. That vehicle then left the scene. Due to the collision, Chavez sustained fatal injuries. Police say they're looking for a "dark SUV." No further information is available at this time.

It's always infuriating when something like this happens, which is why it's always so crucial the community does what it can to help police locate the driver. This late at night, especially along this road, it wouldn't at all be surprising if this driver was coming from a local bar and ran due to drunk driving. With help from local businesses and individuals that can connect the dots, I maintain hope justice will soon be done here.
