Commentary on Sven Johansson Accident near Beaumont
Police say the victim was driving without his vehicle's lights activated, which may be enough for some to decide where fault lies in the accident. However, as always it's best to be sure of all the details before reaching conclusions. The car's lights may have been off, but why? What if there's more to the story? Did the driver simply forget to activate them? If so, why? Was he distracted? Possibly impaired? Did the car's lights actually work, or were they malfunctioning? Was there any other light on that stretch of road? Was the Dodge driver awake, alert, and focused on the road?

None of those questions and the many others like them that still need answers are meant to complicate things or point fingers. I'm only saying that things are rarely as straightforward as a few sentences in the news or on a police report make them sound. Further investigation could still confirm a simple explanation, but only after all the details and possibilities are accounted for can we be sure. Will a police investigation alone be enough to tell the whole story?
