Caprice Davis Killed in Truck Accident on I-95 in Belcamp, MD

Belcamp, MD — December 7, 2022, 27-year-old Caprice Davis died in a multi-truck accident on Interstate 95 in Harford County.

Authorities say the incident happened shortly before 6:45 a.m. along northbound I-95 near State Route 543 in Belcamp. Preliminary investigation suggests Davis was driving a Chevy Traverse north in the left lane when she allegedly crossed over the fog line and collided with two tractor-trailers on the left shoulder. After the impact the Chevy spun back into the road and crashed with a third 18-wheeler.

Davis was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing. No further information is available at this time.

Commentary on Caprice Davis Accident in Belcamp

People may read the described events of this crash and think there's little else to say, but if the years have taught me anything it's that preliminary reports rarely have all the answers. For instance, there doesn't appear to be any stated reason for the victim drifting onto the shoulder. Some may have filled in that blank without realizing it, blaming inattention or fatigue, but without looking closer and finding clear evidence it's unfair to point fingers at the person who lost her life. What if the SUV lost traction on a wet or unstable road surface? Did it have any mechanical malfunctions or defects that sent it off-course? Did it blow a tire? Was the victim in good health? What were weather and visibility like at the time? Were the trucks on the shoulder parked there legally?

None of that is meant to complicate things or make accusations. I'm only saying what I always do: When someone is hurt or killed in an accident like this--particularly in a state with archaic and hostile liability laws like Maryland--it's always critical to learn the clear facts of a wreck in case things aren't how they seem. Will police attention be enough to get to the bottom of what happened here, or should someone else make sure nothing slips through the cracks?
