Commentary on Gilberto Delgado Hit-and-Run in Pharr
It's a relief to learn that the young driver who struck the victim was tracked down and will now face consequences for his choice to flee. However, that choice still puzzles me: Why did he drive away? Was it a simple matter of panic in a stressful moment, or did he have something else to hide as many hit-and-run suspects do? Is there more to this than early reports suggest?
I'm not saying I know there's more to this than a tragic collision followed by a panicked bad decision, but I think it's in everyone's best interests to know all the facts and details of the matter. The victim's loved ones deserve to know the whole story; if police are satisfied with arresting a "bad guy" and don't plan to look much further, maybe someone else should.
