Commentary on Pedestrian Accident on Belmont Ave in Fresno
Police say the victim walked into the truck's path here, but are they sure that's really the whole story? How much distance was there between the victim and the truck before it started moving? Could or should the truck driver have seen the victim approaching before they allegedly became hard to see in front of the truck? Who had the right-of-way? Did the pedestrian walk into the road intentionally, or could they have stumbled or slipped? Is this stretch of road particularly dangerous for pedestrians? Could there be other unusual circumstances involved that the authorities didn't recognize or check?
I don't mean to overcomplicate things. I just see far too many incidents like this where folks quickly jump to conclusions. That's why I often suggest that independent investigators take another look and sort out the details. If nothing else, the victim's loved ones should at least know they have the whole and true story.
