2 Children Killed in Chain-Reaction Accident on I-35 near Troy, TX
Troy, TX — November 23, 2022, two Uvalde boys ages 8 and 13 died in a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 35 near Troy.
Authorities say the incident happened around 6:30 p.m. on northbound I-35. Preliminary investigation suggests several vehicles were stopped in the roadway due to heavy traffic when a Nissan Titan pickup truck approached and crashed into a Mitsubishi SUV. The impact pushed the SUV into a nearby Ford pickup, which in turn hit a Ford passenger car that then hit a Nissan Altima.
Two boys in the Mitsubishi initially hit by the Nissan pickup were fatally injured. The conditions of all others involved are unknown.

Commentary on Chain-Reaction Crash on I-35 near Troy
News reports can only say right now that a pickup crashed into stopped traffic and tragedy followed. No explanation for that would make a family's terrible losses alright, but in the name of at least understanding what happened I hope investigators are trying to figure out precisely why the pickup didn't slow down and stop. Some reasons for that would have been in the driver's control, but others wouldn't and without knowing the true explanation it's too soon to point fingers or draw conclusions.
The best thing to do right now is find real answers, and that will take careful and thorough efforts. With all due respect to law enforcement, I can't help but wonder a little if they're prepared to take the time and care needed to find all the accident's critical details--even the subtler ones that too often go unnoticed in a "by the book" investigation. If there's a chance their work will end with questions still hanging in the air, it may be that independent professionals with superior equipment and training would stand a better chance of completing the picture. At the very least, those affected by the wreck deserve to know that no stone was left unturned in pursuit of the whole story.
