Martin Trujillo, Alejandra Sanchez, 1 Injured in Car Accident in Pharr, TX

Pharr, TX -- August 15, 2022, Martin Trujillo, Alejandra Sanchez, and another were injured due to an accident possibly involving alcohol.

Investigators said that they were called at around 8:19 p.m. to the area of Ridge Road and Old Ridge Road. They said 31-year-old Martin Campos Trujillo and 30-year-old Alejandra Sanchez were in a Nissan Sentra traveling eastbound on Ridge Road. From oncoming lanes, police believe a Ford F-150 went across the center lane and crashed head-on into the Nissan. An eastbound Honda then hit the Nissan.

Trujillo, Sanchez, and the unidentified driver of the pickup were said to have incapacitating injuries. The Honda driver, identified as Danica Simons, may have been hurt. Police believe the pickup driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time and say charges for intoxication assault are pending.

It's obviously serious anytime alcohol comes up as a possible contributing factor, though it would seem there will be consequences if it turns out the driver was indeed intoxicated. But they may not be the only ones to blame. Folks must also consider that a lot of crashes like this involve bars illegally over-serving someone, and those establishments can be liable under dram shop law for their role in the accident. As such, victims in need of help should ensure investigators who understand and are experienced with dram shop have a chance to look into the details so they can get the help they need and ensure any complicit alcohol providers face the appropriate consequences.
