Commentary on Hector Cardenas Jr. Accident in San Antonio
Folks tend to jump to certain conclusions after late-night single-vehicle crashes like this one. Many of those conclusions revolve around possible driver mistakes causing the accident; theories about falling asleep, speeding, or looking at a phone quickly start flying, but in the end it's just people making unfounded guesses instead of waiting for clear facts to tell the real story.
It's not that driver errors can't cause accidents like this--quite the opposite--but taking that for granted is always a bad idea. Only facts and evidence should ultimately tell the story of what happened on I-10, and in the meantime it's best to withhold judgment and keep an open mind. Many different factors could be responsible for the damage done, and all of them deserve careful attention. The most important thing is to get answers for the people who need them, so I hope authorities will pursue this matter until they have those.
