Driver Injured in Single-Vehicle Accident on I-45 in The Woodlands, TX
The Woodlands, TX — November 28, 2022, a woman was critically injured when her vehicle crashed into a concrete barrier on Interstate 45 in Montgomery County.
Authorities say the incident happened around 11:00 p.m. on Interstate 45 near the Woodlands Parkway flyover. Preliminary investigation and a witness account from a Harris County deputy suggest the victim was headed north on the freeway, allegedly at high speeds, when she lost control and skidded sideways into the concrete median barrier. The Kia then rode along the barrier for around 200 feet before going over it into the southbound HOV lane.
The deputy who witnessed the crash found the Kia's driver in critical condition, breathing but unresponsive. Medics soon transported her to a local hospital; a passenger in the car was also taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The investigation continues. No further information is available at this time.

Commentary on Car Accident on I-45 in The Woodlands
After single-vehicle crashes like this one--particularly those that happen late at night--folks tend to assume the driver did something wrong (allegations that the victim was speeding likely do little to change that). Because many similar accidents happen when a driver falls asleep, gets distracted by a phone, or even drives drunk, people fall into the trap of thinking that every crash must be due to something like that.
In many cases investigators eventually confirm that driver error was behind a solo wreck, but that can't be taken for granted as the puzzle is still being put together. Even police themselves miss something critical, though, which is why independent professionals should look again and ensure nothing slips through the cracks. Anything from operator errors to a medical emergency to a defective part in the vehicle could be responsible for the damage done, and every possibility deserves careful attention. The most important thing is to get clear answers; anything beyond that would depend on what those answers turn out to be.
