Shenandoah County, VA -- November 26, 2022, Arturo Garcia Silverio was killed and two people were injured after a semi-truck accident.
Investigators said that the accident happened at around 4:30 p.m. along I-81 near the exit for Route 730.
It appears that 39-year-old Arturo Garcia Silverio was the driver of a Honda Accord stopped in the right lane of southbound I-81 for unclear reasons. While there, a Freightliner hit Silverio's Honda, then overturned on the median.
Silverio sustained fatal injuries due to the collision. Two people in the car had injuries described as minor. No other injuries were confirmed. Right now additional details are unavailable.
Commentary on Arturo Garcia Silverio Truck Accident in Shenandoah County
It's not entirely clear why the victim's vehicle was stationary on the interstate. That can certainly be a hazard, but it isn't always an unavoidable one. Investigators need to determine what the truck driver was doing at the time of the crash and whether or not they could have avoided all of this. That may take more effort than folks may realize.

A while back, for example, I handled a situation where a truck driver said they hit someone whose disabled vehicle simply wasn't visible in time to avoid. Thanks to court orders we obtained, however, we discovered there was video footage from outside and inside the truck. It showed two disturbing revelations. One was that the victim's car was clearly visible and had its emergency lights on. Second was that the truck driver failed to see the car because he was watching TV shows on his tablet.
Had there not been more thorough investigations from experienced professionals, those details may never have seen the light of day. I'm not saying that happened here, but similar steps should be taken anytime a serious truck wreck takes someone's life. If nothing else, their loved ones deserve to know they're getting all the facts.
