Commentary on Ramon Amado-Flores Accident near Tahlequah
Authorities said one party or the other may have failed to yield here. I have no reason to doubt that (though it would have been nice to at least clarify which person was suspected of it), but I've also learned over the years that most accidents aren't really that one-dimensional. Even if someone failed to yield there's a lot more to learn--the vehicles' speeds, weather and road conditions, whether both drivers were awake and attentive, lighting and visibility, the vehicles' conditions, and many other variables.
Things are rarely as simple as preliminary reports make them seem, yet time and again I see people take them as the final word on the matter. Even law enforcement sometimes takes the few details they figure out at the scene as "good enough for reports" and moves on. Without the whole story many accident victims and their loved ones are left lacking important answers and badly-needed help; will that be an issue here?
