Commentary on Missouri Woman Car Accident on FM 523 in Angleton

With a crash like this, folks tend to take for granted that the authorities will get all the facts. In reality, that's not always true. If the particular department lacks equipment, experienced personnel, or the time to dedicate to the crash, more complex factors can slip through the cracks.

I'll give an example. A while back, I was looking into a crash out in West Texas where a man allegedly ran a stop sign, resulting in a fatal crash. Some time later, however, further independent investigations showed that TxDOT had removed those signs while doing a work project, but they forgot to replace the signs when they left for the day.

I'm not at all saying something so unusual happened here, but independent investigators generally aren't going to miss something important like that. Fatigue, mechanical issues, alcohol, road conditions, tire defects--likely or not, it's important to know all the facts so people can get the help they deserve.
