Mary Bohol Injured in Auto Accident on Westcott Rd in Houston, TX

Houston, TX — March 25, 2022, 45-year-old Mary Bohol was seriously injured in an auto accident on Westcott Road in Houston.

Authorities say the incident happened around 8:30 p.m. on Westcott near Prague Street. Preliminary investigation suggests a Ram 1500 pickup was headed south on the roadway in the middle lane. Bohol was driving a Mazda CX-9 one lane to the pickup's left when the Ram driver made an unsafe lane change and hit the SUV. The impact caused the Mazda to run off the road and overturn.

Bohol was seriously injured in the crash. The Ram driver was unhurt and was cited for making an unsafe lane change.

No further information is currently available.

Commentary on Mary Bohol Accident in Houston

If reports have their facts straight then it seems only right that the alleged at-fault driver face some consequences for the unsafe lane change that hurt the victim. However, the cause of the crash isn't always the same as the cause of someone's injuries. That's why it's important to investigate carefully and learn if there's any more to the story.

For instance, it doesn't seem from the description of the accident like the vehicles' actual contact was the source of the damage--the SUV's overturn was. The question on my mind is whether the vehicle's safety features deployed correctly, or whether their failure made an already-bad situation far worse.

Faulty airbags, seatbelts, seat assemblies, and even an improper design that made the SUV overturn too easily could mean that an auto or part manufacturer played a role in the damage done here. I'm not making any accusations, but I can't help but wonder if investigating police even considered such a possibility. If not, maybe someone else should look again.
