Commentary on Lubbock Truck Accident on I-27

There isn't a lot of clear information yet about how exactly this crash happened or what caused it, but any accident that causes injuries deserves careful investigation. To find the truth of what happened many possible factors must be considered, like:

  • Operator errors like distraction, unsafe lane changes, or speeding;
  • Problems or defects in the vehicles;
  • Road and weather conditions;
  • Visibility and sightlines;
  • Other traffic in the area; and
  • Anything else that might have influenced or caused the crash.

That may sound like overkill if the worst injuries were "moderate," but it's always best to know the whole story. Unfortunately rank-and-file police investigators might not actually get that for the victims, which is why after major accidents--particularly those involving commercial trucks--I often suggest a second look by independent experts. Sometimes they only confirm what authorities originally thought, but in many cases they uncover new details that change how a wreck is understood and what might follow it. Whatever is learned, the people affected deserve to know no stone was left unturned.
