It appears that a semi-truck and a box truck collided for unclear reasons. This caused the semi to crashed through the overpass barrier, leaving the truck dangling over the side. The box truck ran off-road and landed on the roadway below the overpass.

Due to the crash, the box truck driver had injuries said to be serious. The semi driver's injuries were said to be minor. Right now, no further information is available.

Commentary on Truck Accident on Grand Parkway Overpass in Spring

Something I talk about a lot on this blog is the importance of thorough independent investigations. Rarely is that more crucial than with a commercial truck wreck of this magnitude. It'd be one thing for a truck to crash off an overpass, but two commercial trucks spanning two separate roadways and one driver being in serious condition is only likely to make the challenges here more significant. Authorities alone simply might not be able to get answers clear enough to get those involved the help they need.

I always talk about the hurdles that trucking companies and insurance companies put between victims and the help they need. It may surprise some to learn that truckers themselves are not exempt from these challenges. They often get caught between the two companies fighting over who should take the blame. Meanwhile, the victims and families are left on their own to fight for their own side of the story.

With all of that bickering, however, evidence is a crucial tool. Evidence speaks louder than just about anything, which is why I look at crashes like this as reminders to people of the importance of ensuring the right professionals are looking into the facts. Whether this is some simple case of a reckless driver or someone chain of incredibly complex and unusual events, professional accident reconstructionists should be able to bring the truth to light and help those involved get the help they deserve. Simply waiting around for the authorities isn't likely to achieve that on its own.
