Driver, 3 Children Injured in School Bus Crash on Greens Valley Road in Spring Twp, PA

Spring Township, PA — November 9, 2022, three children and a school bus driver were hospitalized after a crash with a tree on Greens Valley Road in Spring Township.

Authorities say the incident happened shortly before 8:00 a.m. along the 2900 block of Greens Valley Rd. Preliminary investigation suggests only that the Bellefonte Area School District bus was carrying elementary school students when it reportedly ran off the road for unknown reasons and crashed into a tree.

Responders extricated the trapped bus driver and airlifted them to an area hospital. Three children were taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation continues. No further information is currently available.

Commentary on School Bus Accident on Greens Valley Rd

Investigators said they'd be reviewing camera footage from inside the bus in an effort to find out how it left the road and crashed. Finding whatever sources of clear evidence they can and assembling the truth of what happened should be their main priority, as a lot of scared parents probably want answers as soon as possible. Whether operator error or something entirely out of the driver's hands was responsible, the sooner everyone knows the whole story the better.

In the meantime, it's at least something of silver lining to hear that the children aboard that bus weren't more seriously injured. However, I'd argue a) "non-life-threatening injuries" could take many forms and b) they can't be hastily written off. Things adults would quickly bounce back from may heal incorrectly in kids if they don't get proper attention early, which can cause serious problems down the road--once it's too late to hold anyone accountable for causing the damage.

Driver, 3 Children Injured in Spring Twp, PA School Bus Accident

I'm not predicting doom and gloom in the Spring Township crash, and I truly hope everyone escaped serious harm. I just think it's always best to investigate carefully and gather the facts in case things take a turn. "Better safe than sorry," as they say, and a traffic accident with injuries is certainly no exception.
