Donald Trussell Injured in Auto Accident on I-20 in Grand Prairie, TX

Grand Prairie, TX — October 9, 2022, 53-year-old Donald Trussell was seriously injured in a crash with a suspected drunk driver on Interstate 20 in Tarrant County.

Authorities say the incident happened around 4:40 a.m. on I-20 near Great Southwest Parkway. Preliminary investigation suggests a Chevy Camaro was traveling west on the highway at alleged high speeds when it overtook and rear-ended Trussell's westbound Honda CR-V. The impact pushed the SUV off the road and into a nearby guardrail.

Trussell suffered serious injuries in the crash. Neither of the Camaro's occupants were hurt. Both reportedly fled the scene on foot after the crash but were soon located by police. Officers suspected the Camaro driver of being intoxicated and collected blood samples for testing.

No further information is available at this time.

Commentary on Donald Trussell Accident in Grand Prairie

If blood tests confirm that the allegedly at-fault driver was impaired, that may mean he'll face some legal consequences for his poor choices that night. Drunk driving is a serious problem on Texas roads and it's only fitting that the people who do so face repercussions, but before anyone decides that's the end of the matter there may be other things to consider too.

For instance, after DWI crashes it's important to find out where the alcohol came from. Why? Because a local bar or other alcohol vendor might have illegally over-served them. If so, Texas dram shop law says that business may be partly responsible for the victims' injuries and should help them get back on their feet.

Not every DWI wreck starts with a bar recklessly refilling a drunk customer's glass, but it's an important thing to confirm or disprove during a full investigation. Unfortunately, police aren't always thorough enough to find that out and many negligent businesses get away scot-free, ready to endanger their customers and community all over again. Even worse, many accident victims are robbed of a source of help as they recover.

If an accident like this isn't followed up on by experienced independent investigators, there's no telling if the whole truth will be uncovered or if the victims will get the assistance they deserve. Hopefully the necessary steps will be taken in Grand Prairie.
