Commentary on Maria Moreno, Raul Ramon Garza Car Accident in Starr County

It's not really my place to sit here and speculate about who's to blame, though a lot of people seem to have no issues speculating. Instead, I try to shed light on certain aspects people may not think about much--including authorities.

Maria Moreno, Raul Ramon Garza Injured in Car Accident in Starr County, TX

For example, a rear-end collision like this can sometimes be uniquely challenging. That's because occupants should generally be well protected in these accidents--at least up to a certain speed. If someone slams into a car at 100 MPH, airbags, crumple zones, and seatbelts can only do so much. But at lower speeds, seeing someone seriously hurt can be a sign that something failed to adequately protect them.

Did seatbelts function properly here? Did airbags go off? Did the victim's seat stay upright and in place? These are all things which have caused serious yet avoidable injuries in the past, and they're factors authorities don't often have the skills or equipment to look into on their own. Hopefully steps are taken to get more thorough answers here.
