Commentary on Anthony Deleon Accident in Lubbock

Folks are often quick to write off any crash that involves someone rear-ending another vehicle--particularly if that other vehicle was stopped and parked off the roadway. The general assumption is that the striking driver was somehow careless, and while it's possible his mistakes led to the wreck and his injuries that shouldn't be taken for granted as there could be extenuating circumstances to consider.

Impairment, speeding, distractions, vehicle failures or defects, fatigue, medical emergencies, the truck driver possibly parking illegally on the roadside--those and other potential factors deserve careful consideration. It's important not to decide what the story must be after a simple once-over at the scene, but instead to dig deeper and consider all the possibilities. Will police do that here, or will they just settle for a "good enough" story for their reports? If the latter, then the crash may be better off in the hands of more experienced independent investigators.
