Commentary on Illinois Man Truck Accident on Delta Road in Chanceford Township
While there isn't much information about what happened here, it's not often a truck pulls out of a driveway with the right-of-way. This particular incident could involve extenuating circumstances, but my concern is this is yet another example of a truck driver not keeping a proper lookout for cross traffic. It's important to let the evidence say whether or not that's true, of course, but that evidence can also be crucial simply to keep the story honest. What do I mean by that?
Even if reports came out tomorrow outright blaming the truck driver, that wouldn't make this situation open-and-shut. Any accident involving a vehicle used for business purposes is likely to avoid a company--either the owners or their insurance--who will go to great lengths to avoid responsibility.
Sometimes, these tactics are as simple as refusing to cooperate unless legally required to. Other times, representatives will approach and attempt to manipulate family members into signing away their rights. I've even had companies stoop so low as to steal a victim's headlights to pretend that the cause of the crash was the victim not having their lights on.
I can't say what will happen here without seeing the evidence myself. However, my experience tells me there['s no truck wreck so simple that it doesn't warrant attention from experienced investigators. The family involved here deserves to know they're getting the full story, and they'll likely need it simply to ensure no one twists the narrative in their favor.
