Commentary on Crystal Celeste Gonzalez Car Accident in Dallas

If it's true that alcohol contributed to this crash, then getting help for those involved may not be as simple as folks would think. Texas has unique laws regarding drunk driving wrecks due to the fact that alcohol providers can be liable for contributing to them. How does that work?

Simply put, dram shop law says that an alcohol provider who over-serves an obviously intoxicated person can be liable for damages resulting from that intoxication. Whether it's a bar, a restaurant, or even a gas station, businesses breaking the law and harming their communities need to be held accountable. I've seen first hand how effective dram shop can be at doing that, but it also functions as a way to get folks the help they deserve.

That's why when I read about situations like this, my concern is whether or not they're getting enough attention. There may be circumstances the authorities simply weren't equipped to handle, and getting the victims the help they need may mean making up for that.
