Paris, TX — October 17, 2022, 60-year-old Treva Cargile was seriously injured in a crash with a tractor-trailer on Loop 286 in Paris.

Authorities say the incident happened around 2:30 p.m. on Loop 286 near Pine Mill Road. Preliminary investigation suggests a Peterbilt semi-truck was towing a trailer south on the Loop when the driver attempted to change lanes when unsafe. The truck's trailer hit the driver's side of Cargile's Chevy Cruze, sending the car off-course and into a nearby concrete barrier.

Cargile suffered serious injuries in the crash. No other injuries were reported.

Commentary on Treva Cargile Accident in Paris

It seems from reports as though the truck driver's unsafe lane change was the catalyst for the wreck and the victim's injuries. As straightforward as that may sound, though, getting the driver or his employer to admit responsibility for the crash or make things right with the victim is likely to be anything but.

Getting a resolution to a commercial truck accident is often like pulling teeth, no matter what kind of picture preliminary reports paint. Companies have a lot to lose and they'll fight like hell to avoid losing it, which means they'll do what they can do swing disputes of fault in their favor. Their stubbornness and inventiveness should never be underestimated, as they have numerous methods of cheating victims and families out of the help they deserve.

That's why I do what I can to inform people about the challenges they might face in situations like this. I hope the needed steps were taken or will be taken to ensure this woman gets the resolution she deserves.
