Commentary on Laseppia Hazwood Accident in Mobile

Early reports indicate the victim ran through the median and hit the truck, but investigators don't or can't say why that happened. Clearly that's a pivotal detail to learn, and until clear evidence explaining what happened is located it's best not to jump to any conclusions.

Having said that, I have some misgivings about how hard police may actually look for useful clues. Law enforcement has a pretty clear playbook for traffic investigations, and if they don't find evidence of common explanations they may just pick something "good enough" and then move on. I've seen reports unfairly blame victims until a closer look by independent professionals showed they weren't at fault; could something like that happen here?

I'm not saying police will botch this, only that I've seen some investigations conclude with a lot of unconnected dots. It might be best for someone else with more training and the right tools to step in and keep anything from slipping through the cracks.
