Commentary on Rogelio Puente Accident in Austin

Often after an accident like this, people are quick to write it off as a pedestrian being somewhere they shouldn't. It's true that a busy highway is rarely if ever a good place for foot traffic, it's still never prudent to write off an accident so quickly.

I don't want to speculate on what did or didn't happen here, but if litigating crashes of all kinds for nearly 30 years has taught me anything it's that there's really no such thing as a simple or straightforward accident. A man lost his life here, and that alone warrants as thorough an investigation as possible. If police aren't inclined to give this situation the time and attention it deserves, maybe an independent investigator should look again so the victim's loved ones get some real answers.
