Commentary on Auto Accident at 19th and Slide in Lubbock

I've encountered some people who tend to take any accident happening in urban Lubbock as a matter of intoxication. I'm aware of the city's reputation for rowdiness (largely because of Texas Tech), but there are a lot of good folks there just minding their own business and living their lives. Those same people rushing to judgment doubtless wouldn't like unfairly being called drunk, so as always it's best to keep an open mind and only let facts tell the final story.

With that in mind I hope police will do a thorough job and look beyond just the most common factors for accidents, like speeding or distraction--or even intoxication, though that's far less likely on a Tuesday afternoon. Attention must also be paid to missing or confusing signage, vehicle malfunctions or defects, medical emergencies, and many other less-likely but still-possible factors as well. The people involved in the crash deserve both the benefit of the doubt and the truth derived from a full investigation. Any steps beyond that would depend on what that truth turns out to be; will police take the time and care needed to get it for them?
