Verdi, NV — November 2, 2022, injuries were reported in a multi-vehicle crash involving six semi-trucks along Interstate 80 in Verdi.

Authorities say the incident happened Wednesday morning along eastbound I-80 near Gold Ranch. The cause and circumstances of the wreck aren't clear yet, but investigators say six commercial trucks and two passenger vehicles were involved in the pileup. Two people were injured in the crash but the injuries were though to be "not serious."

Commentary on Multi-Truck Crash on I-80 in Verdi

There's clearly still plenty of work to do here figuring out exactly what happened that led to half a dozen big rigs crashing into one another. Once the objective facts of the accident are clearer, maybe they'll also show whether anyone or anything specific was responsible for the incident.

Some may think careful scrutiny isn't really necessary in a crash where the only reported injuries weren't dire. Of course I'm glad to learn that the two victims were for the most part okay, but at the same time I think it's a little early to dismiss the damage done that way. With all due respect to police, they don't always have all the facts and can sometimes dismiss someone's injuries too quickly.

For instance, not long ago a client's supposed "sore back" after being rear-ended by a big rig turned out to be a ruptured spinal disk that needed major surgery and lengthy rehab. If he'd taken preliminary reports at their word he might not have had the evidence he needed to seek help from the at-fault trucking company.

I hope nothing like that happens after the Verdi accident and there's no particular reason to think it will. However, the possibility that things aren't quite what they seem is one of the reasons I always tell folks they need to take every truck wreck seriously--even if injuries seem minimal. At worst the victims will be overprepared for nothing, which is always better than the opposite.
