Commentary on Emilio Caire Accident on in El Paso
Police don't seem to be sure why the BMW rear-ended the Tahoe, but that may not stop some folks from blaming something common like speeding or texting. I'm sure some fingers were also pointed at intoxication given the time of night, and that could have further implications if confirmed, but investigators didn't offer any theories of their own just yet.
I'm not saying it's impossible for one or more of those issues to be behind the El Paso crash--just that it's much too early to jump to conclusions. Right now there are still a lot of possibilities that need careful evaluation: Operator errors like the ones above, yes, but also vehicle malfunctions or defects, bad road conditions, poor visibility, medical emergencies, and many others.
Finding the truth of an accident means considering all its potential factors. Will police take the time and care to get all the facts, or should independent investigators get involved to fill in the blanks a "by the book" investigation might leave behind?
