15 Injured in School Bus Rollover on Highway 294 near Elkhart, TX

Elkhart, TX — October 28, 2022, 15 people including an infant were injured when a school bus rolled over on State Highway 294 near Elkhart.

Authorities say the incident happened Friday along Highway 294, roughly three miles east of town. Preliminary investigation suggests an Elkhart ISD bus was traveling on the highway when it entered a curve with standing water due to rainy weather. The bus lost traction and overturned, then rolled over into a ditch off the road.

Twelve students aboard the bus, two faculty members, and an infant were transported from the scene. None of their injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

No further information is currently available.

Commentary on Elkhart Bus Accident on Hwy 294

While there's still obviously more work to do to find out exactly how and why this crash occurred (such as exactly how fast the bus was traveling that it lost traction and flipped in the curve), at least there's some silver lining that reports say no one was seriously injured. However, I'd argue a) that could still mean many different things and b) special care must be taken since children--including a baby--were injured, which is particularly concerning since they're still growing and changing. Things adults would bounce back from may heal incorrectly in kids if they don't get proper attention early, which can cause serious problems down the road--once it's too late to hold anyone accountable for causing the damage.

I'm not predicting doom and gloom in the Elkhart crash, and I truly hope everyone escaped serious harm. I just think it's always best to investigate carefully and gather the needed facts on the off-chance that things take a turn. At worst that'd mean being over-prepared for nothing, and that's always better than the opposite.
