Commentary on Marivel Torres Mata Truck Accident in Dimmit County

I don't see any specific reason to doubt these details, but anytime I see a crossover wreck, I take the details with a grain of salt. These can be complex situations, and quite frankly, police make mistakes. Could there be more to this story?

I'll give an example from not long ago. A family asked us to look into a situation where police said their loved one crossed the center line and hit an 18-wheeler. When independent investigators looked into things, however, the evidence showed police got it wrong. The 18-wheeler actually crossed over first, causing the victim to swerve left to avoid it. Unfortunately, the 18-wheeler jerked back to the right, hitting the vehicle head-on.

The officer in charge of the investigations in that example was simply inexperienced, ill-equipped, and too trusting of the one side of the story he got on the scene--the surviving driver's account. With proper tools and training, these traps can be avoided, and victims and families can ensure they're getting the full story. Were those steps taken here?
