Lexis Turner Injured in Motorcycle Accident on I-35 in Hill County, TX

Hill County, TX — September 6, 2022, 27-year-old Lexis Turner was injured in a motorcycle accident on Interstate 35 in Hill County.

Authorities say the incident happened around 9:30 p.m. on I-35 near mile marker 356. Preliminary investigation suggests Turner was riding a Suzuki motorcycle north on the highway in the left lane when the bike's front brake locked up for unknown reasons. It flipped over frontwards and rolled through the lanes before coming to rest a short distance further north.

Turner suffered serious injuries in the crash. Investigators noted that she was allegedly new to riding motorcycles and didn't have a license for one. They also noted that alcohol consumption may have been a factor.

The investigation is ongoing. No further information is currently available.

Commentary on Lexis Turner Accident in Hill County

Police seem pretty content here to blame the crash on what they called an unqualified rider who may have been under the influence of alcohol. While I have no specific reason to argue with their findings, I hope they considered all the possible contributing factors before simply dropping fault at the victim's feet. The bike flipped because its front brake locked; are police certain the lockup was the rider's fault, or could the brakes have jammed? Is it possible the rider braked too hard because she encountered a bad stretch of road or another vehicle cut her off? If she really did drink, where did that happen?

I'm not saying things have to be more complicated than initial reports suggest, but I've done this more than long enough to know police don't always get all the details before reaching conclusions. If there's any confusion or doubt about what happened out there, maybe someone else should have another look and make sure the dots are properly connected.
