Commentary on Wanda Reichert 18-wheeler Accident in Sherman

I often have people criticize me when I read details like these and say that independent investigators need to look into whether or not there were important factors authorities overlooked. They think I just refuse to believe anyone could get themselves hurt. That's not why I address crashes like these, however. I've looked into my share of wrecks where someone made a mistake, and that was that. But I've also handled a lot of situations where the initial details were wrong because a trucking company lawyer was at the scene talking to police, speaking to witnesses, and putting their thumb on the scale to ensure they could avoid responsibility. The simple risk of that happening is enough to warrant a thorough investigation, especially if someone is in serious need of help. Maybe nothing unusual happened here, but I don't see why it would be unnecessary to take steps to ensure the facts are straight.
