Commentary on Edinburg Teen Truck Accident on Frontage Road in Donna
As open-and-shut as these details may seem, there could be complex factors that require more thorough independent investigations. I talk about this a lot because folks often just assume that facts are going to speak for themselves. But when there's likely a company on the other side doing everything in their power to avoid responsibility, a basic fact pattern alone isn't likely to be enough. Besides, further investigations could show there are unique issues that require more thorough action to address.
I'll give an example. A while back, I handled a situation involving a reckless trucker. As clear as things seemed, we made sure, as always, to consider things like the driver's history, training, hours of service, maintenance records, etc. That's how we found out that the driver barely had any experience operating a commercial vehicle. His employer simply neglected to train him properly. They were either too stupid to realize how dangerous that was or they simply didn't care.
With a situation like that, a slap on the wrist isn't enough. Getting folks the help they need is always a priority, but just about all of the hundreds of people I've helped also wanted to be sure those responsible for their hardships were held accountable for their actions. Digging up specifics like in the example above gives victims and families far more effective tools to see that happens. Are those steps being taken here?
