Commentary on Valerie Hinojosa Accident in Grimes County
Of all the kinds of accidents I discuss on this blog, hands-down the ones that get the most premature speculation are single-vehicle wrecks. People tend to consider them tragic but generally the fault of the person at the wheel for losing control one way or another. Crash statistics tend to reinforce that idea, but at the same time nothing should be taken for granted after any wreck. Thirty years of helping victims and families after these accidents taught me that unusual factors contribute all the time to accidents, so it's important to consider them as well.
Mechanical issues, tire defects, road hazards (investigators mentioned loose gravel), other drivers that left the scene--all these and more deserve attention while the dots are connected. If nothing else, the victim deserves the benefit of the doubt until clear evidence can tell the whole story. To make sure that story is learned, steps must be taken to ensure no important details were overlooked. Click below to learn more.
