Commentary on Pedestrian Accident on Hwy 79N in Henderson
It's not really clear what happened here yet, but people may see that the driver won't be charged and say that means the pedestrian must have done something wrong. Folks often don't realize that accidents of all sorts, including those with pedestrians, are usually more complex than they may seem. It's always important to find out whether there's more to the story than a few vague sentences in the news suggest.
All the potential variables of the crash must be accounted for. As things stand issues of visibility, lighting, road conditions, weather, the condition of the car, where the pedestrian came from, where precisely she was relative to the road (was she by it? In it? Walking along it or crossing? In or out of a crosswalk?), how fast the vehicle was traveling, if the driver's full attention was on the road, and many others are still up in the air. For a family in search of answers, that certainly won't do.
None of that is meant to overcomplicate things or accuse anyone, but I think most would agree that it's in everyone's best interests to eliminate as much guesswork as possible. At the very least the people affected by the accident deserve the whole story, so will police take the time and care to ensure they get it?
