Commentary on Carlos Robinson Semi-Truck Accident in Porter County

It's always important to make sure there as thorough an investigation as possible into a crash like this. Frankly, even authorities can be quick to assume someone hitting the back of a truck must have done something wrong. However, there could be extenuating circumstances to consider.

For example, I handled a situation a while back involving someone hitting a disabled truck. As we dug into records police overlooked, concerning details came to light.

One was that the truck's mechanical issues were the direct result of the company not maintaining their vehicles properly and neglecting vital repairs. Secondly, the truck driver failed to put out proper markings despite several minutes passing between the breakdown and the collision. And thirdly, the truck driver could have continued driving until they pulled over somewhere safer, but he instead panicked and parked in a dangerous spot along a busy highway.

With all of that information, the situation became far more complex than folks initially thought. Maybe similar events happened here, or maybe not. I couldn't say without more thorough investigations. My point is simply that those thorough investigations should be a top priority after a fatal crash like this. Getting a grieving family the answers they need is paramount to getting them a just resolution.
