Commentary on Fatal Truck Accident on I-70 in Effingham County

When it comes to a semi-truck accident like this, there are two important things to keep in mind. One is that single-vehicle wrecks, while often the result of driver error, are not always avoidable. They can occur due to anything from a medical emergency to a mechanical defect to some other reckless driver who left the scene.

Secondly, one must also consider that commercial truck rollovers in particular bring a unique challenge due to a common issue authorities tend to overlook: the structural integrity of the driver's cabin.

A lot of manufacturers continue to build trucks to the bare minimum standards. As a result, truck drivers can be seriously or fatally hurt in a crash where a higher quality truck would have protected them. Understanding why this happens and what can be done about it can be crucial for victims and families. I see no reason why this crash would be an exception.
