Commentary on Amarillo Pedestrian Accident on S Western St

Early news releases about this incident say the victim "walked into traffic." That may conjure up certain ideas about what happened, but for the sake of (and out of respect for) all those affected I discourage jumping to any conclusions. It's best that only facts found through careful and thorough investigation tell the story, and I'd hope the news would watch its phrasing when nobody can know for sure yet what happened out there.

There's still a lot of work to do to learn the whole story. Hopefully the victim's condition will improve in treatment and she can provide some insights, but investigators should also look for whatever other sources of evidence they can find as well. Nothing should be taken for granted before the proper effort is made to learn the truth--the people affected by the accident deserve no less.
